PERSEPHONE
[noun]
Greek mythology: also called Kore - the daughter of Zeus and the harvest-goddess Demeter, and queen of the underworld. Homer describes her as the formidable, venerable majestic queen of the shades, who carries into effect the curses of men upon the souls of the dead. Persephone was abducted by Hades, the god-king of the underworld, who succeeded in forcing her to stay in the realm of the dead after tricking her into consuming six pomegranate seeds. The myth of her abduction represents her function as the personification of vegetation which shoots forth in spring and withdraws into the earth after harvest; hence she is also associated with spring and with the seeds of the fruits of the fields. Her Roman counterpart is Proserpina, and her mother is Ceres.
Drag queen, artist and chameleon extraordinaire Phi Phi O'Hara is chronicling her #365DaysOfDrag project on Instagram. As part of the year-long project, O'Hara limited her subject matter for a time to iconic cartoon characters of the ‘90s — and they are amazing.
